Note: This information is for graduate students in Arts & Sciences only. PhD students engaged in programs in McKelvey School of Engineering, Brown School, Olin Business School, the division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences, or on the Medical Campus should contact their program administrators for specific information related to the options available for the Fall 2020 semester.

All A&S Graduate Students

• All students must complete the Spring 2021 Intention survey (You should have received an email regarding the intention survey). The survey is very short and should be completed no later than September December 10, 2020.
• Must update their local address in WebSTAC to reflect their physical address for the Fall 2020 semester.
• If you enrolled remotely for Fall 2020, please check with your department regarding your enrollment options for Spring 2021.

Domestic A&S Graduate Students

• May pursue study either in-person or remotely within the US for the Spring 2021 semester.  
• Must enroll as a full-time, graduate student.  Students may be enrolled in coursework or enroll in LGS 9000 (Full-time Graduate Research/Study) or LGS  9001 (Full-time Graduate Research/Study in absentia) to designate their research engagement.  
• Will receive their stipend payments if they are a fully-funded A&S graduate student. 
• New students may request a deferral to a future term. Check with your department for the deadline to request an extension for your deferral. Your department and the Graduate School will review your request for a deferral and will respond and provide additional direction.
•  Any returning student may request a Leave of Absence for up to two semesters.  Information about the Leave of Absence process and instructions for completing the form is available on the Graduate School website.  

New International A&S Graduate Students Not in the US

• May pursue full-time, graduate study remotely.  Full-time study can be achieved by enrolling in 9 or more units of coursework that are listed as either “Remote per COVID-19” or “Hybrid” in the instruction type.  Students may also enroll in LGS 9001 (Full-time Graduate Research/Study in absentia) to designate their research engagement if a full-time didactic course load is not required during the first term.
• Will receive their stipend payments if they are a fully-funded A&S graduate student on a university stipend.  Students studying outside of the US should be cognizant of the US Federal and State tax laws that apply to the stipend.  The tax rate is much higher for international students studying outside of the US.  Students who do not have a US bank account should contact Janna Schmitt (j.schmitt@wustl.edu) for instructions regarding wire transfers.  Please find more information about taxes and stipends here: https://financialservices.wustl.edu/wfin-topic/payroll/tax-issues-fellowship-stipend-recipients/

New International Graduate A&S Students in the US (specifically first-time US visa holders)

• Must secure a student visa and arrive in St. Louis by February 8, 2021.
• Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student for the Spring 2021 semester.  New international students must be enrolled in at least one class that is labeled as “Classroom Instruction” or “Hybrid” in the instruction type.  Per recent US Immigration regulations, new students may not pursue a full course of study that is 100% online.

Continuing International A&S Graduate Students Not in the US
