A Conversation with Dr. Christopher Cross
Dr. Christopher N. Cross, a Bouchet member and alum of Howard University, will share insights into his academic journey and observations working in health equity in an age of misinformation. Engaging with Dr. Cross in the fireside chat will be Dr. Tyriesa Howard, assistant professor in the Brown School of Social Work and Bouchet member.
Dr. Cross is a biomedical engineer, anatomist, neuroscientist, population geneticist, cancer biologist, LGBTQ+ advocate, and entrepreneur. In 2018, he founded Cross River Strategies (CRS), a US-based, boutique consulting firm that uses community engagement and scientific research to power health equity strategies and services across biotech, pharma, and academic institutions. In his current role as the Director of Health Equity Strategies at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), he advises and supports the design and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies across the ASCO enterprise, its nearly 50,000 members worldwide, and external stakeholders.
The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society , established by Yale University and Howard University in 2005, is named for the first African American doctoral recipient in the United States. Edward Bouchet (1852-1918) was the first African American to earn a doctorate from an American university when he earned a PhD in physics at Yale University in 1876. The Society recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promotes diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate.
This special event coincides with the launch of the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society application for 2024.
